There are two stand up paddle races to kick off this first weekend of June here in New England. The first is the Buzzards Bay Classic and we also have the second APBA event of the season. The results from the first APBA event on Memorial Day weekend are also in.
The Buzzards Bay Classic hosted by Osprey Sea Kayak Adventures is on Saturday June 2nd, with registration starting at 8:30am. There will be a 3 mile Recreational and 6 mile Elite Division as well as demo’s, workshops and kids events after the race. This event is open to SUPs and Kayaks and is in Westport, MA. More information click on the link below. www.ospreyseakayak.com/races/buzzards-bay-classic
Because of weather concerns the second APBA SUP & Surf event at Salisbury Beach has been moved from Saturday the 2nd to Sunday the 3rd. Hopefully there will be some surf! The APBA races are in and out through the surf line, around the buoys, and make for a more technical race then open flat water courses. The APBA events are raced on stock class 12’6″. Martha’s Vineyard stand up paddle speedster Patrick Broemmel left the rock for a little holiday weekend trip to Salisbury to take the first race of the APBA season. The Banh Pho race board shaper/designer had to come by Surfari to borrow a stock 12’6″ Naish Glide as his was still in the glassing racks. So he was welcomed onto the Surfari Race Team with a first place finnish! Rumor has it that women’s first place winner Marta Downine also cruised to victory on that same Naish Glide…
New Hampshire’s Andrew Kellar who was last years APBA series runner up finished second with Surfari Race Team rider Willis Brown grabbing his second third place finnish in his two week long race career.
Look for some more excitement this week as last years two APBA defending champions return to the beaches of Salisbury to defend their crowns. Surfari and new Starboard team guy John O’Hara will be racing for the first time this season this weekend. Dani Schmidt will also be looking for her first APBA win after missing last weeks race
The winners from last weekends Atlantic Paddle Boarding Association race event #1

We are two weeks out from the Boston Tea Paddle on June 16-17. See you there!!!
